This is a hard concept for me. Am I enough? Did I do enough? Do I have enough? Is there enough to share? What is enough? What is more then enough? Where does enough end? Can I become enough?
I will never be enough by human standards. No matter what I do, or how hard I work it will never be enough. I can have a hundred university degrees, I could be smarter then Einstein. I could cure cancer, or fly to mars. Maybe I could be a world class chef, or a hauntingly beautiful musician. Still, I would lack.
So if I look within the world itself I am not, and can never become enough. Depressing much? Now, Do I have enough, is there enough to share? Again, the human brain is not designed to be satisfied. It’s designed to hunger for more, long for growth, and search for the next best thing. Is there enough to share? Finally, an answer with a resounding yes. We are social creatures, innately in need of others. Sharing is what we do to survive, but this is not always selfless. We often “share” and take advantage of people. Or we “share” our cruelty. Yet, what really is enough? Does it even exist? Probably not to be honest. It seems our search is everlasting and fruitless if we are looking from an earthly perspective. Where does enough end? The easy answer is-when we stop searching for it.
God says I am enough… YOU are enough. That’s why he sent his Son to die in our place. He knew we could never be enough to earn his favour. But he wanted us to know that we are enough for him to desire our eternal company. He didn’t want our deceitful hearts to get in the way of his love. So… Have I done enough? Absolutely not. Am I enough? Definitely. Maybe, in that light, I can be convinced that I have enough to be satisfied, because more doesn’t make me better. More doesn’t fulfill me. Nothing can separate me from God’s love, but nothing can bring me closer to God either. Searching for more is fruitless, depressing, and keeps us from realizing our identity as children of God. Maybe that’s what enough means. That we are made and loved by the one true God, and nothing can be more then that. So that fact alone can be our “enough”.
Just a few of my thoughts today.
We spent the morning out at a kids playgroup, then had lunch. And now I think I’m out of spoons. But I will tidy the living room if only so I can relax in it without being constantly distracted by garbage, and kids toys everywhere.

See you tomorrow.
